WIUT Secures Uzbekistan’s Second Horizon Europe Project

WIUT Secures Uzbekistan’s Second Horizon Europe Project

We are delighted to announce another major international research achievement for Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) and for Uzbekistan.

WIUT has been awarded participation in a new Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action (RIA) project - GLOBAL-ACT: “Integrated global assessment of climate risks and the socio-economic costs of climate inaction under institutional delay and geopolitical fragmentation.”

This achievement marks an important national milestone. Following TiBeRIUM, officially announced as Uzbekistan’s first Horizon Europe project, GLOBAL-ACT represents the second Horizon Europe project win for Uzbekistan with WIUT participating in both.

Importantly, WIUT is the only institution from Uzbekistan participating in the GLOBAL-ACT consortium, strengthening the country’s representation in one of the European Union’s flagship research and innovation programmes.

22 international partners across Europe, Central Asia, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas
Total project budget: €4.55 million
Duration: 36 months
Evaluation score: 14.5/15
Uzbekistan partner: Westminster International University in Tashkent
WIUT Project Coordinator: Dr Alisher Pulatov

GLOBAL-ACT will develop a new generation of integrated climate–economy assessment tools to better understand the socio-economic costs of climate inaction, including the effects of institutional delays and geopolitical fragmentation, and to identify feasible pathways for mitigation, adaptation and resilience.

This second Horizon Europe success represents another significant step in strengthening Uzbekistan’s integration into the European and global research ecosystem and demonstrates WIUT’s growing capacity to participate in highly competitive, large-scale international research programmes.

We are proud to represent Uzbekistan in this global consortium and look forward to working with our international partners to contribute meaningful research to one of the most pressing challenges of our time.
